First Post! Optimism! No Quitting!

So here we are. I hope this is the beginning of something great! I've let my writing fall by the wayside for a long time, and it's time I made it more of a priority. So again, here we are. Or rather here I am.

Prince Phillip would much prefer I simply go to bed. He's my ten-month-old Jack Russell Terrier/Chihuahua. I call him Phil mostly, and occasionally just "bubbies." I don't think he's terribly fond of my computer. In any case, I'm here and I'm feeling a desire to write again. So many blogs start like this, and then they end up being abandoned, only to be discovered years later frozen in time just after an optimistic post that begins with something like, "It's been awhile but I've been busy!" I hope that doesn't happen here. At least not before I have made some real progress in my writing.

I'll give you a bit of a background on me: I have spent my entire life as a performer. A singer, an actor, a sometime dancer, in musical theatre. That's what my degree is in, and I'm one of the lucky ones who can say I actually make my living performing. I love my job. But I've felt a desire to write for years, and as things seem to be moving along just fine in my performing career these days, I figure I may as well take this time to revisit my hobby. Who knows? Maybe I could develop a real ability one day and find a career in writing. Or perhaps I could simply find that special sense of joy and accomplishment that comes when you begin to improve in or master something new.

In any case, I hope I've found you at a good time. I hope you're in the mood to follow along with me as I traverse the fascinating and seemingly endless world of learning to write better. Hopefully this can become a place for some discussion and for some honest self-critique...and hopefully I won't quit.

Don't let me!
